Rays Sign Nick Madrigal to Minor League Deal

The Rays signed a quarterback Nick Madrigal to a minor league contract, according to Madrigal’s MLB.com profile page. It was a short trip for the free agent Madrigal, who just returned to the open market a few days ago when he turned down an outright assignment to the Angels’ Triple-A team.

After missing the entire 2025 season due to shoulder surgery, Madrigal signed a minor league contract with the Halos last winter and was selected to the 26-man roster at the end of May. Madrigal hit .273/.385/.295 over his 52 plate appearances in a Los Angeles uniform, providing a decent amount of offensive production despite a complete lack of power. It wasn’t enough to keep the Angels from selecting Madrigal for assignment there Jorge Soler activated on the 10-day casualty list, as Denzer GuzmanThe promotion of the forwards and the introduction of the everyday role furthered the saturation of the image within the group.

Madrigal now joins a Tampa Bay club that has been short-handed in the infield all year, due to Gavin LuxThe longest season in IL is 60 days. While Madrigal may not be as easily optioned in the minors as the Rays’ other infield options at Triple-A, he provides Tampa Bay with some depth.

Madrigal has played only second and third base during his six MLB seasons, though he has made several appearances in the minors this year as a left fielder. The right-handed hitting Madrigal can provide help for the left-handed swing Richie Palacios at second base, and playing time at third base probably won’t be given Little Caminerothe presence of That said, Caminero may get time at DH if Yandi Diaz is headed to the injured list, as Diaz left today’s game with a shoulder injury and is (for now) considered day-to-day.
