Trade Deadline Outlook: Colorado Rockies

The Rockies have the worst record in the majors and have not been good in recent years. They are in a clear selling position. What is not clear is how they will meet the deadline, since they have a new office in place.
The front office was notorious for not trading players at high value, or even if they still had a piece of value. In 2021, both Trevor’s story again Jon Gray they were free agents. Despite being the obvious sellers, the Rockies didn’t trade them. Issue declined a qualifying offer at the end of the season, prompting the Rockies to select another draft pick in 2022, which they normally would have. Sterling Thompson. Gray didn’t get the QO and walked away with nothing. CJ Cron he signed a minor league deal with the team before that campaign. He went on to have a season with 28 homers. The Rockies gave him a two-year extension instead of trading him. The first season of that deal worked well enough but not the second. Daniel Bard he had a renewal season in 2022, at the age of 37. Instead of trading him, the Rockies extended him, a move that quickly backfired.
There have been some changes since then. The Rockies made a trade Ryan McMahon again Jake Bird at last year’s deadline, even though McMahon’s contract expired in 2027 and Bird still had three-plus years left to control the club. The team then moved on from general manager Bill Schmidt at the end of the season. Paul DePodesta was hired as president of baseball operations. DePodesta has an analytical reputation over the previous regime, but we’ll have to see how he uses the Rox at the trade deadline.
