Microsoft’s gaming division has been in turmoil amid a restructuring of Xbox that includes plans to cut 3,200 jobs and focus more on its high-end assets. Along with those memories and new games, Bethesda is still updating Error 76. It said a major expansion is planned for next year which will serve as a precursor to that fallout 3, perhaps setting up the release of an updated version of that game. New seasons of Fallout Shelter are on the way as well, while an unscripted TV show based on the mobile game is on the way.
Scrolls of the Elders VI that’s where most of Bethesda’s focus currently lies, however. “Scrolls of the Elders VI that’s our main development focus today, most of our team is currently working on the next chapter of the franchise,” he said. “With more than 65 million copies sold, players are still exploring. It considers that “still an important part of our future.” Bethesda plans to release “new stories, targeted gameplay improvements and additional updates, while preparing for the launch of new Starborn content next year.”
Bethesda’s Todd Howard told Bloomberg would prefer not to discuss developer projects until they are ready for release. However, Bethesda has revealed the roadmap to give fans a clear picture of what’s to come. “We realize we need to find a way to say more so our fans understand what we’re doing and why, and also protect that moment when you see a game and press play,” Howard said.
Bethesda laid off a number of employees as part of the Xbox restructuring, at the time Elder Scrolls Online developer ZeniMax Online Studios has lost 213 employees at its Maryland location. The latter is now said to have 186 employees – about 40 percent of the workforce it had at the start of 2025. ZeniMax Online will continue to work on its game while collaborating with Bethesda on other Elder Scrolls projects.
Xbox cut 1,600 jobs in early July and announced plans to shed another 1,600 or more next year.
