Did J-Hope of BTS just spoil the big surprise of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8?

Samsung has spent the past few days building anticipation for Galaxy Unpacked, but one of the company’s biggest pre-launch moments may not have come from an official teaser. Instead, it seems to be from BTS.
During a sound check before a BTS concert in Paris, J-Hope shared an Instagram Story that seems to show Samsung’s upcoming book-style foldable. Although the device is not named, its wide cover display and revised dimensions look remarkably similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 that has appeared repeatedly in recent leaks and renders. Given Samsung’s close relationship with the BTS member, it’s hard to dismiss the look as something that happened.
Time makes the post even more interesting
Just the other day, Samsung Mobile released a teaser featuring J-Hope with the caption, “I can’t give too much away, but j-hope is already pumped up for what’s going on,” but confirming that he is once again part of the company’s Galaxy Unpacked campaign. The Instagram story may not officially reveal the phone, but it certainly sounds like Samsung is comfortable letting fans get an early glimpse.
Samsung’s partnership with BTS goes back several years, making J-Hope a familiar face to Galaxy fans. He has fronted Samsung folders, and SUGA has appeared in campaigns for the Galaxy Buds4 Pro lineup. The group’s worldwide appeal has made BTS one of Samsung’s most recognizable brand ambassadors, especially for flagship launches, so seeing J-Hope tied to another Fold announcement isn’t really surprising.
If the phone in J-Hope’s case is indeed the Galaxy Z Fold 8, it’s consistent with what we’ve been hearing for the past few months. Samsung is widely expected to move away from the long, narrow cover display that has defined previous Fold models in favor of a shorter, wider design that should make the device feel more natural to use when closed. The phone he’s holding looks similar to the leaked Galaxy Z Fold, and he appears to be sporting an online exclusive Pistachio color.
Leaked reports have revealed a lot about the Fold 8
The leaked rendering also suggested smaller bezels, a thinner chassis, and a hinge upgrade that could help reduce the visibility of the display. According to multiple leaks, the phone is likely to come with Snapdragon 8 Elite. Samsung is expected to double down on Galaxy AI features while refining multitasking on the large internal display, continuing the company’s push to make the Fold as much a productivity tool as it is a flagship smartphone.
The camera system, however, could be one area where Samsung takes a different approach. The leak suggests that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will have a dual rear camera setup that includes a 50-megapixel main sensor and a 50MP ultrawide camera. Unlike the Samsung Ultra-branded flagship, the Fold 8 is not expected to feature a dedicated phone lens. Instead, the company can rely on the sensor’s in-sensor 2x zoom, although image quality may start to degrade at higher zoom levels. The rumor also points to two 10MP selfie cameras, one placed in the hole punch of the cover and the other on the internal display.
Battery life could see a welcome boost as well. The Fold 8 is rumored to pack a 4,800mAh battery, which is up from the 4,400mAh cell in the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Combined with the expected benefits of the Snapdragon 8 Elite, a larger battery could help Samsung’s next foldable to deliver even better endurance than its predecessor.
Of course, Samsung has not officially confirmed that the device in J-Hope’s Instagram story is the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Until the company takes the stage at Galaxy Unpacked, this is still an educated guess based on the phone’s appearance and Samsung’s ongoing promotional campaign. However, if this was intended to create conversation before the event, it has already done just that.
Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 8 during Galaxy Unpacked alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 8, a new lineup of Galaxy Watches, and the latest Galaxy AI additions. If J-Hope’s appearance backstage is any indication, however, fans may have gotten their first real look at Samsung’s next iteration before the keynote even begins.
