Rangers Selection Cameron Cauley

The Rangers are calling a potential prospect in the area Cameron Cauley making his league debut, reports Robert Murray of FanSided. He is not on the 40-man roster yet. Texas has a 40-man roster spot for now, but they are also reportedly in the process of finalizing a major league deal with the veteran righty. Chris Paddack. That’s two more 40-man additions for the team to announce, meaning they’ll have to make at least one 40-man move. That might be a right hand pass Jack Leiterwho had ankle surgery last week, from the 15-day IL to the 60-day IL, though.

Cauley, 23, was a third-round pick of the Rangers back in 2021. He is a combination hitter who has gone 29-for-29 on stolen base attempts in 74 games while hitting .262/.363/.407 in 343 plate appearances at the Triple-A level this season. Cauley drew walks at a whopping 13.1% clip and struck out at a manageable 21.3% rate. He hit eight homers and added 12 more doubles and three triples to his extra-base hit tally. Cauley hit 15 homers and surpassed 25 steals in 2024 and 2025.

Although Cauley had respectable numbers for all the kids, they came despite high strikeout numbers. That leads to questions about his hit tool (or lack thereof) and how he can handle more advanced pitches as he moves up the ladder. However, this year’s 21.3% clip is far and away the lowest of his young career. Cauley had a 24.7% strikeout rate in Double-A last year and a 29.2% strikeout rate the year before in High-A. His strikeout rate in 2023 was around 32%.

In the first few seasons of Cauley’s career, his contact rate was below 70%. He dropped that to 71.8% last season and is now at 75.7% in 2026. That’s still below the major league average of 77%, but not by much. Cauley’s 27.8% strikeout rate on balls from Triple-A is also lower than the major league average by a few percentage points. Facing big league competition will be a new challenge, but he has made real gains in his pitch selection and hitting ability this season.

Cauley has played shortstop more than any other position in 2026 but is a versatile defender who splits time in a variety of positions. In addition to 227 innings at shortstop, he spent 187 innings in center, 109 at second base and 87 at third. He has more than 550 professional innings at both the center field and center field positions. Scouting reports peg him as an all-around defender across the diamond.

Texas is lost Wyatt Langford on the injured list over the weekend and put the workers Cody Freeman again Michael Helman on the injured list this month. Helman has a broken hand and has already been moved to 60-day IL. Freeman came out with a herniated disc in his back.

Cauley was not selected in December’s Rule 5 Draft despite being eligible, although one can imagine that if other clubs knew the kind of benefits they would get from his connections and field selection, that would be a different story. Corey Seager again Josh Jung were penciled in at shortstop and third base, respectively. There are more at-bats at second base, where he’s a veteran Nicky Lopez it has been working since. Ezequiel Duran again an option there but saw more time in left field and (while Seager was out) at shortstop. Evan Carter he just returned to the field when Langford beat IL. He has never hit lefties, which would make Cauley a viable platoon partner in center who could see time at second base and support Seager and Jung in the left side of the infield.

If nothing else, Cauley’s glove and speed give him a respectable spot as a utility player. If he can sustain his communication advantages and/or find in-game strengths, he could eventually take on a dominant role.
