  • The Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event is next week.
  • It will announce new foldable phones, smartwatches, and more.
  • Early reports suggest a new foldable design.

Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked is days away, where the tech giant will unveil its latest generation of foldables and smartwatches. Samsung’s mobile launch event will take place on Wednesday, July 22, at 6 pm ET in London, and ZDNET will be on site for the latest news.

The latest generation of Samsung foldables includes the eighth generation Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8, as well as the next generation of Galaxy smartwatches: the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 and Galaxy Watch 9.

Samsung may also be cooking up a few surprises, such as the wider Galaxy Z Fold 8, the Galaxy XR Glasses Samsung teased earlier this year, or the second-generation Galaxy Ring.

Here’s everything we expect Samsung to unveil next week.

The new foldable

Samsung recently teased that a new foldable is on the cards this year. It even showed a “brand new shape” in the Spider-Man trailer, so all signs point to the much-discussed launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 next week. This will be Samsung’s seventh generation of foldable phones, so expect some innovation in the form factor.

Rumors suggest that the Z Fold 8 will have a larger battery at 5,000 mAh, a dual camera setup, and a tablet-aspect ratio. This could be announced alongside the main foldables that Samsung has unveiled each summer, including the next-generation Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8.

Two new watches – but no Old

We’re on our way to the ninth-generation Galaxy Watch and the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. Rumors suggest that Samsung is skipping its classic feature this year, so if you’re in the market for that rotating bezel design, check out last year’s Galaxy Watch 8 Classic.

As for new watches, the Galaxy Watch 9 is rumored to get the usual range of updates, including possibly new processors and a more powerful battery.

Galaxy Ring 2

While the Senior Vice President and Head of the Digital Health Team at Samsung, Hon Pak, confirmed that the second generation Galaxy Ring is in the works, there is not much talk that it is coming anytime soon. We haven’t seen any rumors that it will be launched next week, but maybe Samsung is sneaking around this time.

If it doesn’t launch this week, we can estimate a launch date closer to early 2027 — possibly at CES in Las Vegas.

Galaxy glasses

This could be another curveball product release, but Samsung’s senior vice president of mobile business, Jay Kim, said in February that the Galaxy XR Glasses will be released later this year. Well, officially “later”, but we still don’t know much.

We know little about Samsung’s plans, though. For one, they will have an eye-level camera built in and integrated with the rest of the Galaxy ecosystem. Kim said the glasses will be a way for AI to capture and map your surroundings in conjunction with other products, and will not be a stand-alone AI device.
