Socialist influence is spreading from New York to the Wisconsin governor’s race

The recent wave of socialist victories in the Democratic primaries in New York and elsewhere should be a wake-up call to Americans across the country. For years, many people dismissed socialism as a neglected movement within the Democratic Party. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case.
The victories of self-proclaimed New York Socialists Brad Lander, Darializa Avila Chevalier, and Claire Valdez are the latest evidence that the socialist movement is no longer a faction operating on the fringes of the Democratic Party. Socialists are increasingly setting the path for the Democratic Party – and many voters in progressive parts of the country are willing to accept it. That should affect every American.
All three candidates had the support of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, whose rise from local elected official to political kingpin. The results surprised the Democratic Alliance leaders. According to Axios, some House Democrats described the result as an “earthquake” and a “huge defeat” for the party’s leadership. Even moderate Democrats will admit they no longer have control over their party, Socialists do.
DEMOCRATIC SOCIALISTS ARE NO LONGER IN POWER
The significance of this victory extends beyond New York. Mamdani’s candidates did not defeat the Republicans. They defeated incumbent Democrats and establishment-backed candidates in key swing states. The result will likely add more socialists to Congress and continue to drag the Democrat Party further and further to the left of American politics.

Voters should not only be concerned with the label but more concerned with the policies that go with it.
Policies promoted by today’s social movement can affect the way Americans work, start businesses, save money and pursue economic opportunity. They can completely and forever change the American free enterprise system that has made our country the strongest and most successful in the world. As a small business owner, I find this very scary. We don’t help businesses by making government bigger, we help them by getting out of the way.
LEGISLATIVE PRESENTS PAINFUL EXPLANATION OF ENDING THE US CENT IN AN ATTEMPT TO CHANGE AMERICA
For example, Lander has supported policies that would severely restrict independent contracting, limiting opportunities for millions of Americans who value the flexibility and freedom that comes with freelance and gig work. Avila Chevalier advocated for ending labor rights protections and allowing unions to collect dues directly from workers’ wages, including workers who choose not to sign a union. Valdez called for the full weight of the federal government to be used to increase the power of unions and force workers into union membership, regardless of whether they want to join.
This alarming trend extends beyond New York. Seattle voters recently elected Katie Wilson, another socialist candidate who aligns with many of her priorities. Across the country, activists are forming organizations, lobbying candidates, and gradually increasing their influence in democratic politics.
Now, we’re seeing the trend reach beyond blue-chip cities. In my home state of Wisconsin, the gubernatorial front-runner, Francesca Hong, proudly identifies as a socialist. His nomination shows that ideas once found in a few urban districts are now being aired to voters in battlegrounds that will help decide the future of the nation. That’s why it’s so important that we elect Tom Tiffany as governor of Wisconsin in November and prevent someone like Hong from bringing socialism to our doorstep.

For years, many Americans thought that socialism could only be successful in a few places like New York City or San Francisco. Recent elections suggest otherwise. This movement produces candidates, wins primaries, and replaces Democrats with those who accept an ever-increasing role for government in the economy.

I know that voters in my state and across Wisconsin do not want to follow the same dangerous path we have seen in many coastal cities, and we must do everything we can to prevent that from happening here. If we don’t stop this leftist ideology now, it will reach our neighborhoods next.
Americans who value economic opportunity, more choice for working Americans, and free enterprise should pay attention. What happened in New York was not an unusual occurrence. It was another sign that socialism was becoming the defining direction of the Democratic Party’s future.
