NBA Analyst Doesn’t See LeBron James Fit in Cleveland

The Cavaliers continue to be linked to LeBron James as the four-time NBA champion weighs his free agency options, but not everyone believes a return home will improve his championship chances.
NBA analyst Kevin O’Connor believes the idea of James rejoining the Cavaliers sounds better in theory than it does on the court, saying the current roster isn’t built to maximize his potential.
“I don’t get Cleveland’s allure for LeBron other than it’s at home,” O’Connor wrote in X. “James, Mitchell and Harden are a weird fit. Not enough D, not enough movement off the ball. Not enough space with Allen and Mobley. It’s a flawed bench. I just don’t get it.”
The Cavaliers have established themselves as one of the more common teams in the Eastern Conference in recent years, but repeated playoff disappointments have fueled speculation that another blockbuster move could be in the offing.
Adding James would arguably be one of the biggest moves imaginable, though O’Connor isn’t sure it will solve Cleveland’s biggest problems.
“If he goes to Cleveland to come home, sure, that’s a great story for the final chapter,” O’Connor added. “But Cleveland’s roster needs a lot of work to make any sense on basketball grounds.”
One of the biggest concerns is how James will match up with Donovan Mitchell and James Harden, all three players who are successful when the offense goes through them.
O’Connor believes that combination raises many of the same questions James faced in his final season with the Lakers, when Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves also needed the ball in their hands.
Cleveland has one advantage that Los Angeles sometimes lacks. Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley remain one of the league’s premier defensive backfields, and several around the league believe Cleveland could consider moving one of its big men if James signs to create a more balanced roster.
