US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents involved in the fatal shooting of an immigrant in Houston this week were not wearing body cameras, multiple sources familiar with the investigation told Fox News.

The development comes as the shooting continues to draw attention across the country. The incident is being investigated by the Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Public Safety, while Houston prosecutors are conducting another investigation into the shooting incident.

Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican citizen who authorities say was in the country illegally, was shot and killed Tuesday after allegedly trying to pull over an ICE officer in his car, the agency said.

Multiple Democrats have called for an independent investigation into the incident.

“Every single ICE agent involved in the shooting death of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo must be investigated to the fullest extent of the law,” House Minerals leader Hakeem Jeffries wrote in X. “The video footage of the murder must be released immediately. The American people deserve the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.”

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani also called for “real accountability” following the incident and reiterated her support for ending ICE.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum vowed to pursue “legal measures” following the incident.

Asked if the officers involved were wearing body cameras, the Department of Homeland Security directed Fox News to a previous ICE statement about the shooting, in which the agency accused Araujo of trying to evade arrest.

ICE previously told Fox News Digital that Araujo “slammed an ICE officer’s vehicle, refused to comply with multiple verbal commands, and armed his vehicle in an attempt to ram an ICE law enforcement officer resulting in our officer firing his weapon in self-defense.”

Araujo was beaten and rushed to the hospital, where he later died.

“This is a developing situation, and we will update the public when more information becomes available,” the agency added.

A small video of the encounter has gone public in the days since the shooting.
