Although France and England may have failed to reach the World Cup finals, they still have a lot to play for.

Two of Europe’s powerhouses will play for bronze in the World Cup third-place playoff at Miami Stadium on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on FOX.

France failed to reach the final of the World Cup for the third time in a row when they lost 2-0 to Spain on Tuesday. The French dominated the entire World Cup before losing to Spain.

France had won by more goals on aggregate except for one of the six victories leading up to the semi-final, Round of 16 win over Paraguay. In seven World Cup games, they have allowed a total of four goals.

Spain’s first goal in the semi-final came from a bad mistake. Veteran full-back Lucas Digne misread the ball and challenged for a cross, but kicked Lamine Yamal to the spot, making a mistake that gave Spain a penalty in the 22nd minute.

Mikel Oyarzabal scored a penalty for Spain, giving the Spaniards a chance they would never give up.

Pedro Porro scored twice for Spain in the 58th minute, when he broke through the French field and scored after beating the French goalkeeper Mike Maignan with a pass from Dani Olmo.

The French tried to get back into the game, but Spain’s defense was too sound to break through. Spain holds the record for the sixth shutout in this World Cup.

For England, there were almost 35 minutes and stoppage time before they advanced to the World Cup final after taking a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute.

Anthony Gordon scored when he buried the ball from Morgan Rogers to put England on the board to end the game. Harry Kane sparked the counter with a long pass that left the Argentine defense flummoxed for the first time in the game.

Unfortunately for England, it was all Argentina after that. After falling behind, the Argentines made a furious push to tie the game.

Argentina were held scoreless for 85 minutes, and finally broke through when Lionel Messi set up Enzo Fernandez just outside the penalty box, and the 25-year-old curled a volley around England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford into the back of the net to tie it at 1-1.

Lautaro Martinez then played hero when he came off the bench and went down in Argentine football history by scoring the winner in stoppage time. In the 92nd minute, Messi recorded his second assist after collecting a loose ball and playing a beautiful ball into the penalty area, where Martinez was waiting unmarked. Martinez headed the ball past Pickford to send the Argentina fans into a frenzy as they finished their comeback.

Argentina’s comeback ended the Three Lions’ bid to win the World Cup, but England can still win bronze by beating France on Saturday.
