Are your golf shoes taking a beating? Arccos data may soon tell you

Golfers spend hours and thousands of dollars making sure their golf clubs and balls are properly driven. So, why don’t they give the same care and thought to the piece of equipment they use for every single shot?
We’re talking about your golf shoes.
On this week’s episode of GOLF’s Fully Equipped, fellow host Jake Morrow sat down with Arccos CEO Sal Syed and discussed the possibility that a shot tracking app could give you an analytical guide to what type of shoes you perform best in.
“Consciously or unknowingly, there is a working angle to everything that plays golf, which I did not see,” said Syed.
That could mean your choice of outerwear, pants or, yes, shoes – with the Arccos app potentially tracking if a piece of clothing affects your game.
Syed said he tested five rounds using spiked shoes compared to five rounds with spikeless shoes. In spiked shoes, he said, he saw a 0.8 improvement in his driving.
“They are not comfortable with other shoes I wear, but I always wear them when I know I have to sing,” he said.
Being able to distinguish scratches found on golf shoes is not a feature that Arccos made available, but it does show the potential of the technology. It also goes to show that something as seemingly insignificant as shoe choice can, in fact, make a difference to your game.
