Confirmation Joel Embiid Offered LeBron James To Help Sign Him

LeBron James’ move to the Philadelphia 76ers wasn’t just to join another rival. Behind the scenes, one of the biggest questions surrounding the decision centered around Joel Embiid and his health, and the reigning MVP’s answer seemed to play a big role.
While Philadelphia’s star-studded roster of Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Jaylen Brown was always attractive, concerns about Embiid’s fitness remained a legitimate obstacle throughout the process.
That concern was brought up during a private meeting between James and Embiid in Los Angeles, according to NBA expert Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson of ScoopB.com.
Robinson reported that Embiid gave James reassurance about his health after completing his first free agent season without surgery, a statement that dramatically changed the way James views Philadelphia’s championship.
With a healthy Embiid leading the frontcourt, the Sixers’ roster suddenly looks more stable heading into the 2026-27 season.
A league source also explained why the creation of the Philadelphia program was so attractive if Embiid’s availability was no longer considered a major concern.
“Joel has had brief conversations, but the truth is, if you look at this team, if Joel is healthy, he’s your best player, right? But if he’s your fourth best player, no matter what happens, he’s got a lock because he’s got a very, very, very good team,” the source told Robinson.
Without Embiid, Philadelphia fans bolstered James’ confidence in the move.
Tyrese Maxey’s relationship with James, built through offseason workouts, was viewed as another positive, and the arrival of Jaylen Brown gave the Sixers another guaranteed All-NBA talent on the wing. Veteran coach Nick Nurse and senior adviser Bob Myers also helped bolster the belief that Philadelphia had put together a legitimate championship berth.
Rather than chasing the biggest contract available, James prioritized basketball equity.
With Embiid making sure he entered the season fully healthy and on a roster capable of competing at an already high level, Philadelphia ended up offering what James believed was his clearest path to another NBA championship in the 24th year.
