Tigers’ Bailey Horn Gets Tommy John Surgery

Tigers reliever Bailey Horn underwent Tommy John surgery on Wednesday, the team announced (via Chris McCosky of The Detroit News). He will miss the entire season and most or all of 2027.
Horn has been on the injured list all year. He underwent an arthroscopic elbow procedure and tried to build in early April. That didn’t go far and the southpaw continued to battle the pain over the summer. Apparently there is a torn muscle that required surgery to repair.
Detroit acquired Horn in a trade in Spring Training 2025. He spent most of last year in the minors but managed 11 2/3 frames in 10 appearances. Horn allowed only two runs despite a 10:7 strikeout-to-walk ratio. The Auburn product posted a 6.50 ERA in 18 appearances with the Red Sox in 2024, his only MLB experience.
Horn will spend the rest of the season on the injured list. He will earn a full year of service and be paid a minimum salary of $780K. It’s possible the Tigers will waive him early in the offseason, as they would have to return him to the 40-man roster.
