CCP dumping threatens the steel, automotive and agricultural industries as the law tightens

NEWNow you can listen to Fox News articles!

America is under economic attack. For decades, politicians in Washington looked the other way while the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) quietly flooded our markets with cheap artificial goods, wiping out American jobs and entire industries. Thanks to President Trump, that era of willful blindness is over. But the war is far from over.

When you hear the word “abandonment”, it may not sound like a big deal. But it is one of the most destructive economic weapons the CCP is using against the United States. Dumping occurs when a country subsidizes the production of a good in order to flood another country with cheap goods to sustain domestic production capacity. This practice is incompatible with the free market because it uses government subsidies to produce goods in excess of consumer needs and to distort prices.

While labor politicians decry and allow multinational corporations to hand over American jobs to Beijing, President Donald Trump said enough is enough. On his first day back in office, President Trump signed the America First Trade Policy Executive Order, directing his administration to review existing tariffs and duties on Chinese goods to ensure they are strong enough to stop counterfeiting. Unlike previous administrations, the Trump administration is fighting global dumping.

TRUMP’S PLANETARY WAR WITH BEIJING IS PART OF A MULTI-PRONG STRATEGY TO DEFEND AMERICA AGAINST BROAD THREAT.

President Trump is taking action. But Communist China is persistent, creative, and patient. The CCP will look at operational strategies, change product categories, route goods to third countries, and investigate all gaps in our enforcement framework. America must maintain the enforcement agenda of the US Trade Representative and continue to use Antidumping and Countervailing Duties to keep international markets fair and hold China to the agreements it has already signed.

The industries under CCP attack represent the backbone of American industries: steel and aluminum, automobiles, precious minerals, fertilizers, food products, lumber, textiles, furniture, and chemicals. These sectors employ tens of millions of Americans. When Chinese companies dump low-priced, subsidized products on our market, American manufacturers can’t compete in an economy that China has decided the rules don’t apply to.

This is a deliberate strategy. The CCP’s goal is to penetrate the world’s largest economic markets, eliminate competition, and make the United States and Europe dependent on China’s production chain.

China controls about 60% of the world’s rare earth minerals and about 90% of the refining capacity. US Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum explained exactly how Beijing is arming that monopoly: “They’re going to target that mineral, dump a certain amount on the market, lower the price. And the companies, including the US companies that are making a profit, are out of business.”

THE WEST IS NOT A DANGER TO CHINA’S SUPERIOR WORLD GAME

In steel, China is the world’s largest producer and exporter, and its exports will jump another 7.5% from 2024 to 2025. The Trump Administration has launched an investigation into structural overcapacity in Chinese steel production, with global overcapacity expected to reach 721 million metric tons by 2027.

China also controls 60% of the world’s supply of glyphosate, a key chemical in the production of herbicides. If America depends on China to grow its food, the national security consequences are obvious and frightening.

Even the automobile industry is not safe. By 2023, China will increase its car chassis exports to the EU by 327% to weaken European production. The US cannot allow the same thing to happen here.

The Trump administration has rightly recognized the seriousness of the problem. President Trump has imposed tariffs, launched trade investigations, and put America’s economic sovereignty back at the center of US foreign policy. No president in modern history has done more to expose and confront the CCP’s corrupt trade playbook, and America’s manufacturers, steelworkers, farmers, and families are better off because of it.

Congress has also given the President powerful tools through Sections 201 and 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, which allow the President to levy tariffs on imported products with the intent of harming domestic industry. The Trump administration is using those tools with great success.

President Trump is working to protect American workers from CCP condemnation. We must make sure that the fight is not abandoned when the going gets tough. China is counting on our attention to disappear. We will not allow it.
