5 Lessons From Running AI Agents Across Search

Last year, 2.5% of Writsonic’s revenue came from AI searches. As of March, 35% did.

Samanyou Garg, Founder and CEO of Writsonic, showed the system behind that number in his Search Engine Webinar: agents reveal what’s happening across the search field, doctors prioritize and take action. “Search AI didn’t kill SEO, but it turned it into an engineering problem,” he said.

The session includes new citation research and 5 lessons from the field, including a 6-step loop his team runs on every published page and a workflow that wins citations on pages you don’t own.

96% of AI Citations Point to Pages You Don’t Own

Where does AI Answers pull quotes from? Especially on pages outside of your website.

In a recent study by Writsonic, 96% of AI search citations pointed to third-party sources: Reddit, YouTube, forums, industry publications. A few months ago that number was closer to 80%.

Model updates redistribute the mix. Reddit, forum, and YouTube quotes all jumped between GPT 5.3 and GPT 5.5; session repeaters.

“You have to make sure you’re not putting all your eggs in one basket, like your website or a specific website,” Samanyou said.

Action item: Get the pages cited in your referrals where competitors appear but you don’t. Samanyou took down the agent who created that access list, including the authors’ contacts.

How Long Does an AI Citation Last?

Writesonic has measured the lifespan of over 150,000 citations. The average is shorter than most content calendars assume.

Cycle of quotations: models rotate from new sources, and one model review can give your place to a competitor. “It’s very flexible, because the models are naturally occurring,” Samanyou said.

The exact number of lifetimes, and the game of updating and dividing things that his team plays when the quotes rotate, is in the session. Watch it on demand.

What Goes Into An SEO Agent: 4 Layers

What does an effective SEO agent consist of? 4 layers: identity, knowledge, skills, and tools. Samanyou opened the actual example files for each.

Lesson 1 remains at the top: hire experts, don’t replace them. His team creates expert files, secondary mental documents that capture how a named expert thinks; their agent for the position is working on the April Dunford draft.

“It’s like a team of young students working with you. But the apprentices are the best in the world who have learned from experts, they have access to all the details, they understand everything about the background,” he said. The doctor approves everything before it is sent.

Action item: Build one expert agent before you build their team. The session shows the process of the expert file, from intensive research to the finished presentation.

What is Closed Loop SEO? Submit, Confirm, Repeat

What is closed SEO? Treat all published pages as a test: make sure that Google has indexed it, make sure that it ranks or earns citations, put the result in the next correction.

The live survey showed a gap: most of the attendees don’t rate anything, or rate and do nothing about it.

The Samanyou team scores each page with a business-impact formula: 4 weighted factors that turn a 100-page backlog into a ranked line of work. 4 items and their weights are in session, along with both live dashboard demos.

“Diagnosis is cheaper now,” he said. “The main thing is to kill.” Watch the webinar on demand.

Q&A: The Most Helpful Questions from the Webinar

Q: What should you do first, and what should you never do automatically?

Samanyou answered: Connect your existing data sources first and automate the active optical loop. Never automate a deployment: “It should be self-contained until you have someone verify and test everything before it goes live.”

Q: On the page or off the page: what really moves the visual AI needle?

Samanyou replied: Both, it’s on the page: “I’d say maybe 60% on the off page, 40% on the page.” Rate on the page when your pages start earning citations.

Q: How do you create a professional agent file?

Samanyou replied: Build the second brain of the named expert: a deep study of their published structures, or their best speech documents compiled into one organized file. “It doesn’t have to be like 10,000 words of text, it has to be organized in the right way, so that the model can use it and use it in any new work.”

Q: How do you know which leads are coming from an AI search?

Samanyou answered: Self-explanation and verification. The demo form asks “Where did you hear about us?” and marketing calls for double-checking: “There might be a 10 to 20 percent bias when people choose something at random. But even so, it gives us a good indication.”
