“I improved every tournament. If you see the performance of the first two, three games, the way I finished the tournament, it was always growing. It was exactly what I needed. I was looking for this development, player development, on my side. We made it happen.”
He also praised his comeback game, especially in the big moments.
“I always think it’s easier to return if you know mentally that you can hold the serve, so you’re a little bit more comfortable returning as much as you can. At the same time, when we’re facing Sascha, when he’s working like this, he’s really hard to break, especially in a place like this.”
Asked what it means to lift the trophy again, Sinner said:
“I don’t think it’s a relief, to be honest. You just want to enjoy it. Today was a very difficult day. If I lose, it’s still a good day. To play in a Grand Slam final, it’s rare and very special.”
Zverev said he was happy with the level he produced despite the loss.
“Yeah, I think overall, compared to where I was last year, it’s obviously a very different tournament for me. Yes, of course I would have liked to lift the trophy, but he was better than me today, and he deserves to win.”
This German player also believes that he is approaching the best players in this game.
“I hope so. That’s what I came to do. And, I think this year, like I said, has been progress. I think I’ve been pushing those guys. I haven’t beaten them this year, but I pushed them to the end, I would say.”
Looking ahead, Zverev said he plans to stay the course.
“Same thing. Keep doing the same thing. Keep working on the things I’ve been working on since the beginning of the year. Continue in this way. I think, yes, keep doing the same thing. “
