The Rays are interested in Tarik Skubal

The Rays are expected to be active at the trade deadline, and the club is reportedly in the midst of putting together the first starting pitcher on the market. Bob Nightengale of USA Today notes that Tampa Bay is in pursuit of the Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal. Jon Heyman of the New York Post also has the Rays as a contender for Skubal, along with the Cubs and Braves.

The cost-conscious Rays are unlikely to be part of the sweepstakes for Skubal’s services in the offseason. Trading the ace now would give them several months of services for the two-time reigning AL Cy Young winner at a very affordable price. Skubal won a record-setting hearing that netted him $32MM this year. Tampa Bay also signed the Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte and is in the market for an upgrade.

The radiation creates circulation by changing the release material Griffin Jax again Ian Seymour for beginners. The change went well, but it won’t stop the club from adding a starting pitcher, especially since the innings comprise the unit. Jax has appeared in 70 frames, just a dozen short of his career major leaguer. On the left Shane McClanahan in 86 innings. In the last two seasons, he did not play because of several arm injuries. There isn’t much depth behind the current five rotation options Steven Matz again Jesse Scholtens in IL.

Skubal has been in impressive form since returning from elbow surgery. Except for the long balls, he looks like a normal person. The lefty has a 44:5 strikeout-to-walk ratio in six IL starts. After struggling, Skubal matched a season high with 96 pitches in his first outing in July.

Skubal’s Tigers shake-up seemed possible at the end of May after a three-game sweep against the White Sox dropped their record to 22-38. Detroit then put together an above-.500 June and rattled off seven wins in the first eight games of July. The team is now 3 1/2 games back of the last Wild Card spot in the underperforming American League.

Even if Detroit falls in the race, it will take a long way to get to Skubal. Tampa Bay may not be willing to part with the necessary capital, but as Anthony Franco said in the Rays’ trade deadline perspective, the organization offered. Little Caminero again Carson Williams for Shohei Ohtani back in 2023. Like Skubal, Ohtani was a rental closer to free agency. MLB Pipeline ranked the Rays as the top 10 farm program entering this season. Tampa Bay was restocked over the winter with a series of trades that brought in a catcher Caden Bodineforeign player Jacob Meltonand the right hand Anderson Britoamong others.
