Best movies to stream this month (July 2026)

Summer is tough here and the temperatures feel borderline apocalyptic in most of the northern hemisphere. Why not avoid the raging sun and stay inside where it’s (hopefully) cool and distract yourself with some of the best movies streaming right now?
Your options are very rich as well. The best sci-fi movie of the spring Project Hail Maryabout the global ice that threatens the Earth due to mysterious sunrises, is now on Prime Video, after winning over the theater audience with the help of a lot of gems. However, if you want to embrace the flames, you will find like minds Image: Fire and Ashes on Disney+, where a violent new tribe of Na’vi just want to see the world (well, the living moon to say the least) burn.
If instead you find the heat to be hellish, then a double bill of Satan’s terror may be more appropriate. Both Good or Bad 2and on Disney+, as well They will kill you on Hulu taps into the previously unexplored but incredibly rich subgenre of “strange sisters with dangerous weapons who kill deadly cults”—insert “surprisingly it happened twice” meme here, but just go with it. Or if you like not to turn off your brain completely for fun, there are too many brains Archive or a dark dystopia A Long Journey to clear your mind of the unbearable heat.
Here are WIRED’s picks for the best movies to watch right now.
Project Hail Mary
When he boards a spaceship to find himself the only surviving member of the crew, amnesiac middle school science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) makes for an unlikely astronaut. Worse, he’s Earth’s last hope for survival, sent into space in search of a way to stop a strange object that’s devouring the sun itself—and nearly every other star in the sky. It would be an impossible task alone, but luckily Ryland has backup in the form of Rocky (James Ortiz), the first alien humanity has ever met, a five-legged stone creature that communicates through song.
Adapted from the book of the same name by Andy Weir (author of The Martian), Project Hail Mary a great piece of survivor drama and solid science fiction, but the real heart of the movie is Ryland and Rocky’s growing friendship. Get ready to fall in love with a fun rock spider-thing—tighten my bump, friends.
Image: Fire and Ashes
Starting in 2022 The Way of Waterhuman-in-a-Na’vi-body soldier Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and his family are grieving following the death of their eldest son Neteyam, leading wife Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) on a dark path. As the family struggles to stay together, human colonial forces led by Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang) form a deadly alliance with the fiery fire-worshipping Na’vi tribe ruled by the Varang (Oona Chaplin)—intending to destroy despite the Na’vi god, Eywa. James Cameron’s almost unbelievably ambitious saga returns with an epic outing that takes viewers through new regions of the jungle moon Pandora. Fire and ashes not to jump to the point, but thankfully you can binge on the entire trilogy (for now; A photo 4 and 5 scheduled) on Disney+.
Ready or Not 2: Here I Come
First of all Right or wrong from 2019 it was a sleeper. A butcher with a sense of humor, he plays with the fear and uncertainty of marriage and joining a new family, with bride-to-be Grace (Samara Weaving) caught up in the murderous rituals of her fiance’s family. This sequel, helmed by returning directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, picks up shortly after that first film’s credits, leading to Grace’s reunion with her estranged sister Faith (Kathryn Newton)—just in time to enter another killing spree against a group of billionaires and aristocrats looking to fill Grace’s void. Schlocky, comic horror, enhanced by the presence of Sarah Michelle Gellar in an almost anti-Buffy role, Good or Bad 2 It’s not high art but it’s a lot of fun.
They will kill you
If Good or Bad 2 It’s schlock then They will kill you it’s a step up—an almost exploitative level that takes liberal inspiration from Sam Raimi’s original. Evil Dead trilogy and smash it with Gareth Evans’ one-man-against-a-tower-block action The Raid.
