Anthropic is offering Claude Fable 5 at no additional cost for a limited time

Anthropic is making it easy for paying subscribers to try out its new AI model without spending extra money. The company announced a limited-time promotion that gives users on eligible paid plans access to Claude Fable 5 at no additional cost until July 19, 2026. However, there is a catch: the model is completely unlimited, and once you reach the limit of use, you will have to start paying or switch to another Claude model.

The promotion comes as competition in the AI assistant market continues to intensify. OpenAI, Google, Microsoft and Anthropic are all racing to get users into their latest flagship models, often using free trials or promotional access to encourage adoption. Rather than offering unlimited access, Anthropic is betting that giving subscribers enough time to experience Fable 5’s capabilities will convince many to continue using it after the promotion ends.

Claude Fable 5 is free – for now

According to Anthropic, users on the Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans based on the high chair can use the Claude Fable 5 at no additional cost during the promotion. Instead of introducing a separate allowance, Fable 5 pulls from your existing weekly usage allowance. Users can use up to 50% of their weekly plan limit on the new model before additional limits come into effect.

We are extending the reach of Claude Fable 5 to all paid plans, and keeping the weekly rate limit for Claude Code 50% higher, until July 19.

There is no need to work or rescue. If you’re eligible, Fable 5 automatically appears in the model selector for all supported Claude apps, including Claude Web, Desktop, Mobile, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, Claude Design, Claude for Microsoft 365, Claude for Teams, and several business-focused tools.

Anthropic is also extending a 50% increase in weekly usage limits for the Claude Code until July 19, coinciding with the promotional period for Fable 5. However, Fable 5 is not available everywhere. Free-tier users don’t get promotional access, while Enterprise customers based on usage, standard Enterprise seats, and API users stay out of the offer. API access to Fable 5 continues to be billed separately at standard rates.

Free ride only on July 19

The promotion also offers an early look at how Anthropic can position premium AI models going forward. Once users have spent up to 50% of their weekly allowance on Fable 5, they are faced with two choices. They can continue to use the model by purchasing usage credits, which are billed separately from the subscription, or return to another Claude model and continue working within their remaining weekly quota.

Importantly, using other Claude models still counts against the same weekly limit. That means someone who has already used most of their allowance elsewhere won’t necessarily get the full 50% share for Fable 5. For Enterprise customers, the rules vary by seat type. Premium seats get promotional access automatically, while standard seats require administrators to enable usage credits before Fable 5 is available.

Promotion officially ends at 11:59:59 PM PT on July 19, 2026. After that, Claude Fable 5 will no longer be included as part of the subscriber’s weekly plan restrictions. Anyone wishing to continue using the model will have to pay through Anthropic’s usage credit program.

The move reflects a broader trend emerging across the AI industry. As premium models are more expensive to operate, companies are moving away from unlimited subscription access to hybrid pricing models that include fixed monthly plans and pay-as-you-go usage. Limited-time promotions like this allow users to sample the newest technology while giving suppliers a clear picture of real-world demand before making premium models permanent premium upgrades.
