After a Saturday interrupted by fog, the final marathon day awaits the challengers at the Genesis Scottish Open. It started early on Sunday, when Robert MacIntyre, Matt Fitzpatrick and Min Woo Lee finished their third rounds tied at the top of the leaderboard at The Renaissance Club.
MacIntyre, who won the tournament in 2024, fired a bogey-free, one-under 65 in his third round to electrify the crowd in his home country. Lee, who won the tournament in 2021, carded a four-under 66, as did Fitzpatrick.
While these three will start the final round in the lead, they will have to hold off a leaderboard full of rivals to leave Scotland with the trophy. Chris Gotterup, the 2025 champion, has been pushed back, as have Tom Kim and Michael Thorbjornsen. Wyndham Clark, Keita Nakajima, Johnny Keefer and Kevin Roy are both back at 10 under.
Rory McIlroy entered Saturday’s third round tied for the lead, but the six-time major champion faded away on the leaderboard with a disappointing third-round 73. He will start the final round six shots behind the leaders.
Whoever survives Sunday’s race will leave Scotland with a winning check for $1.575 million and a huge boost heading into next week’s Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.
