Americans are asking why Dems are waiting for rape allegations to pull Platner’s approval

Attendees at the America 250 State Fair questioned why Democrats waited until rape allegations surfaced to drop US Senate candidate Graham Platner, saying the party ignored previous controversies before asking the Maine candidate to drop out.

“The Democratic Party is alive and well,” Nancy of Tennessee told Fox News Digital.

“They see – the party is sinking, and one of the ways to keep it from sinking is to remove the dead weight from the ship and it’s a piece of weight,” he added.

After Platner’s former girlfriend, Jenny Rapricot, accused the Democrat of rape in two reports Monday, members of the party eventually withdrew their support for the Maine Senate candidate.

Bob from Maryland speculated about the Democrats, “I think they’re so worried about not taking back the House or the Senate, or the presidency, they can do anything.”

Rapricot told CNN and Politico about Platner’s alleged rape. She claims that in 2021 he broke into her home drunk and forced himself on her – despite her repeatedly forcing him to stop.

If that bombshell accusation wasn’t enough, within 24 hours of the reports becoming public, the Washington Post published allegations by Lyndsey Fifield that Platner, who she was dating, would remove condoms during sex “in a manipulative way.”

Rapricot’s allegations were a sticking point for prominent Democrats who have stuck by Platner in the months of controversy and allegations that have surfaced during his campaign for the US Senate.

From a Nazi-related painting, to allegations of abusive colleagues, to a slew of lewd Reddit posts from comments about masturbating in portable toilets to mocking a wounded US soldier – this appeared to be the group’s final frame after a long campaign full of scandals.

“What happened to believing all the women?” Karen from Maryland said, backing away from a phrase often used by Democrats when it comes to allegations of sexual misconduct. “It’s disgusting how they let this boy go.”

He went on to say, “It just makes you sick to your stomach.”

“This latest scandal should sink him,” predicted Rory from North Carolina. “He should not be qualified to be in Congress based on things from the past, especially this young lady who is coming out against him.”

Sandy of Virginia said Platner’s rise reflected a broader voter frustration with the political establishment.

“We’re seeing people rebel against what they see happening in their lives right now,” Sandy told Fox News Digital. “So they want something else. And a lot of the things he said resonated with the people of Maine.”

One attendee said “mainstream Democrats” will not support Platner and other candidates running for Congress in the upcoming election.

“With the growth of the DSA, which goes along with it, the average Democrat will not tolerate it,” Nancy said. “Everybody had it.”

Almost everyone Fox News Digital interviewed at the Great American State Fair amid allegations of rape said Platner should step down, with one Republican voter saying he would like to see the candidate continue in the race because it would make the Democrats an easy win.

“In my opinion, I think he should stay in the race,” said Fred from Texas. “It will be easy for us to beat him.”

Democrats’ calls for Platner to step down come days before Maine’s July 13 deadline to replace him in the November general election. If he leaves before 5pm on Sunday, state Democrats will have until July 27 to choose a replacement.

Platner’s campaign said Monday it is “taking time to think about the best way forward.”
