According to The Chronicle, police in Nkayi region arrested a 34-year-old man named Christopher Sibanda, who was caught red-handed in the act of committing the heinous act.
He sucked blood from the woman’s throat, which he had cut, and he had a pot with him in which he wanted to collect even more blood.
Realizing he had been spotted, Sibanda fled the scene, but police later found him and took him to prison. His victim was Subusisiwe Sigauke, who was returning from the hospital. The vampire first struck the woman hard on the head with a stick, then slit her throat with his knife.
The incident occurred around 2:00 PM, in broad daylight, on a rural road between the Kana clinic and the village of Sikhevu, where the woman lived. The local police aide confirmed the authenticity of the incident, though he made no mention of the vampire aspect of the murder. However, the details quickly spread among the villagers.
District council leader Edward Marigeni said everyone was in shock over the incident.
“We knew Sibanda had always been strange, but no one considered him so dangerous. He sometimes lost his mind, but he was never violent. He was never even registered with a psychiatrist. However, his horrific act was witnessed by several people.
After he killed this poor old woman who went to the clinic for medicine, he sat down next to her body and sucked on the wound on her neck. That’s what everyone found him doing.”
After Sibanda fled the scene, his pot, where he had begun collecting blood, was found next to the woman’s body. Fortunately, the vampire was found very quickly. He is now in prison.
